Overview
The Garden Guide Volunteer acts as the host/hostess to gardens and grounds. The volunteer will explain the garden, hand out garden literature and answer questions. Be a Goodwill ambassador for the gardens. The Garden Guide Volunteer will also assist guests with any other questions regarding the grounds and historic homes on the site.
Duties and Responsibilities
Discuss different plants/trees and history of Garden
Greet and help orient guests in the Garden
Assist guests around the grounds
Respond to guest inquiries
Answer guest questions regarding the historic site, Salem and surrounding area, other attractions in town in a positive and non-opinionated manner.
Qualifications
Background in gardening
Knowledge of types of plants and trees
Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
Must have the ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public and other staff members
Be guest focused
Have a basic knowledge of historic Salem
Must have the ability to work outside for extended time
Be presentable, well groomed, and wear name badge with lanyard (given by The Gables)
