The Mariners' Museum and Park connects people to the world's waters, because through the waters - through our shared maritime heritage - we are connected to one another.
What spices spurred the Age of Exploration? What did pirates wear? What is the Noland Trail? How do boats float? These are just a few questions that our Junior Volunteers will be able to answer. Using natural objects and exhibit spaces our Junior Volunteers will educate the Museum visitors about history, science, and other interesting maritime information!
The position for Junior Volunteer at The Mariners' Museum involves interaction with and education of the visitors to the Museum. The individual must be comfortable speaking in front of an audience and communicating with a variety of ages involving daily interaction with the general public. It includes helping to provide assistance with summer programming including but not limited to "Maritime Mondays", assisting with the Activity Ship, and hands on "Education Stations" in the galleries.
An interest in history and/or science is essential. We are looking for students who are 13-17 years old, with strong and positive communication skills. The ability to work in a busy environment with lots of different people is a must, as well as being able to work in a friendly and professional manner. Student must complete the mandatory training.
