ORGANIZATION: ReImagine Science

ReImagine

We are looking for a passionate person who is interested in making a difference for the future of science. As Treasurer of the Board for ReImagine Science, you will join us as we expand to implement projects shaping the future of science. This board position has a 6 month trial period, and runs for two-year, renewable terms.

If you are already expert in accounting practices, we welcome you. If you wish to develop your expertise, we welcome that as well. We can help you learn, beginning with our prep work for our 990EZ tax returns. We have a professional auditor who is responsible for entering our transactions in QuickBooks, and a wonderful San Francisco accounting firm that does our 990 preparations; we consider this an ideal set-up to learn the ropes for non-profit accounting practices in a no-fail learning environment.
Our mission is to catalyze a fundamental change in the way we 'do' science in the United Sates. We work by creating networks of scientists and science advocates interested in creating change from within science. We work with new organizational models, focusing on issues of communication and science's place in society.

About ReImagine Science

Location:

380 Hamilton Ave 1222, Palo Alto, CA 94301, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to be the touchstone for a fundamental change in the way we work together to 'do' science. Our goal is to bring together the ideas, people, and resources alongside new trends in workplace practices to bring out the best in science. By acting as a clearinghouse for issues and concerns, as well as a catalyst for potential solutions, we are connecting the passionate voices in science with one another to create a shared vision for the future.

Description

Reimagine Science believes the current culture of science creates an invisible cost in loss of productivity, slower rates of discovery, and 'wasting assets,’ including human capital.

We believe that while scientific research in the United States is arguably in a Golden Era, the less promising reality is that the culture and structures of science fail to fulfill the true potential of invested time, money and individual contributions.

We are committed to creating a shift in the culture of science - by deepening its roots in creativity, collaboration, and excited exploration; and by finding new organizational systems and tools that will more effectively support science, scientists, and our contribution to society.

By having the conversations with the people that will make a difference we will transform what is possible both for people who are currently working in the field of science and for those that are interested in studying to become scientists.

We will impact the experience of learning science, the experience of teaching science and the experience of doing science.
