ORGANIZATION: Korean American Family Service Center

Position: Summer Outreach Intern, Reports to: Community Outreach Coordinator


DESCRIPTION

Community Outreach and Education

  • Assist in coordinating KAFSC’s community outreach events, workshops and presentations
  • Assist in planning and attend appropriate community events, meetings and press conferences relating to domestic violence and/or the Asian community
  • Draft press releases and prepare media packets to conduct media outreach
  • Collect newspaper and TV news clippings about KAFSC programs and services
  • Prepare and distribute appropriate outreach materials (flyers, fact sheets, online postings, etc.) for special events and for meetings with community partners or elected officials
  • Contact allied community partner organizations, elected officials and other important persons on behalf of KAFSC
  • Maintain and update contact information of community partners and elected officials
  • Sundojah (Community Advocate Group):
    • Plan and lead monthly Sundojah meetings
    • Collect and input outreach data and budget details using Sundojah database
    • Conduct and draft Sundojah interviews for marketing purposes
    • Provide English-Korean and Korean-English translations as needed

Volunteer Management

  • Assist in organizing bi-annual Domestic Violence Volunteer Training sessions
  • Assist in maintaining up-to-date, accurate volunteer hours in DonorPerfect and the Presidents’ Volunteer Service Award system
  • Recruit volunteers for special events, services, programs and as needed
  • Maintain official KAFSC volunteer email account and refer volunteers to appropriate programs
  • Provide support to Program Directors and Coordinators with resources and strategies related to volunteer recruitment, management and retention
  • Harmony (Volunteer Group):
    • Assist in planning and conducting monthly meetings and continuing education sessions
    • Draft monthly Harmony newsletter
    • Manage volunteer hours and details in the database


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Oral and written fluency in English and Korean required
  • Familiarity with Korean/Asian immigrant communities a plus
  • Computer competency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite

EXPECTATIONS

  • Collaborative attitude, positive attitude and sense of empathy toward survivors of abuse
  • Active engagement in tasks and supervision; highly motivated to learn; self-starter
  • Punctuality and professionalism

DAYS/HOURS

3 days a week, 8 hours a day


DURATION

About three months from June to end of August (negotiable)

Academic credits and/or recommendation letters
