Thank you for your interest in serving our Hospice Patients and Families. At Heartland Hospice, we help to enrich lives each day. We welcome retired and other Individuals to our Volunteer Team as an Friendly Visit Volunteer.
By becoming a Hospice Volunteer, you share the gift of yourself! Heartland Hospice has a way to contribute:
- "Friendly Visitors" help to personalize, support and enhance the quality of our Patients' lives by bringing the gift of caring Companionship to our Patients with regular visits. These Volunteers offer...
- Companionship by just being there for the Patient and offering to read, play music or a game, simply talking and being present with the Patient.
- Emotional support to the Patients by listening & sharing experiences, allowing the expression of feelings, holding a hand, giving a needed hug, and offering words of comfort
Our "Friendly Visitor" Volunteers receive training regarding the Philosophy of Hospice, the role of the Volunteer and other Staff Members, as well as helpful skills in caring for and communicating with Hospice Patients and their Families. Volunteer hours are flexible and scheduled according to the needs of the patients and families.
The goal of Hospice Care is not to "cure" but to provide "comfort care" at the end of a Person's life. Together, as an interactive Team, our Volunteers and Staff strive to make life as comfortable and fulfilling as possible to the very last moment of life.

Mission Statement
Heartland Hospice provides specialized care that meets the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and loved ones facing the challenges of end of life. The quality of life for those we serve is enhanced by encouraging personal choices, supporting meaningful experiences and preserving dignity. Every day, we enrich the lives of our patients and the people who love them by blending advanced medical care with a compassionate touch.
Description
Heartland Hospice offers hospice services wherever a patient calls home, whether the care is provided in a home setting, assisted living facility or skilled nursing center. We are committed to caring for the mind, body and spirit. Our specially trained staff helps manage pain and symptoms, thereby enabling patients to live their lives as fully as possible. In addition, our team members create a comforting environment and provide emotional support to families who need help coping with the loss of a loved one.
To serve as our guiding principles, we've created the Heartland Caring Promises: We promise to care for the mind, body and spirit. We promise to provide care that is comforting and compassionate. We promise to respect patient and family choices. We promise to unite with community partners in care. We promise to be accepting and supportive of patients wherever they are in life's journey.
The hospice volunteer offers support, companionship and assistance with non-medical tasks to help this special group of people. The hospice volunteer program ensures that patients spend their final days in dignity and comfort and provide the extra love and care our clients and their families need at this time in their life.
