We are rushing to create a super cool on-line (and after COVID-19, in-person) set of creek tours in the San Francisco East Bay. Currently, I have four interns from UC Berkeley pulling together materials and building the web page content. However, they finish their semester on May 7th and this project still requires lots of research and writing.

Work includes:

  • Really interesting research into the creek's history, community groups and activities, scientific studies, dominant species, restoration activities, and where it is daylighted (above ground) and where the creek is underneath in pipes.
  • Writing text, gathering existing images for website and for printable creek guide
  • In some cases, we are walking/biking the creeks to take pictures to create online maps with points of interest for those unable to currently get out into the watersheds (or who aren't local).
  • Supporting the live-streaming creek walking with a naturalist events that we're doing in various watersheds
These tours will be so useful to folks stuck at home, and also for those who live nearby who may be able to safely walk sections of the creeks. In the long run, when we're able to do the creek walks in public

We're looking for 2-3 volunteers that are capable researchers, visually creative, can take initiative, good team communicator, and enjoy themselves as they work. There are a lot of moving pieces so you need to be organized. Loving creek ecology isn't a bad add-on.

Mission Statement

Wholly H2O catalyzes dynamic, informed connections between people and their watersheds via community and citizen science, art & green infrastructure education.

Description

What about reimagining watersheds as neighborhoods large and small literally Waterhoods? In order to deal with climate change, we have a great need for people to get reconnected to the ecosystems and their waterhoods so that we have a better understanding of what we ALL need - humans other animals and plants together. Rather than seeing the natural world, of which we are a part, as a series of resources to extract, we’re encouraging you to get to know your waterhood and all your neighbors.
