Together...we can do great things!

Are you a student in the medical field? The #1 way to gain VALUABLE EXPERIENCE is becoming a Hospice Volunteer!

By becoming a HOSPICE VOLUNTEER you share the gift of yourself while learning about something that most individuals and professionals are not comfortable with - death, dying, and loss. Heartland Hospice "Friendly Visitors" help to personalize, support and enhance the quality of our Patients' lives by bringing the gift of caring Companionship to our Patients with regular visits. These Volunteers offer...

  • Companionship by just being there for the Patient and offering to read, play music or a game, simply talking with the Patient, or assisting with non-medical tasks
  • Emotional support to the Patients by listening & sharing experiences, allowing the expression of feelings, holding a hand, giving a needed hug, and offering words of comfort

Our "Friendly Visitor" Volunteers receive training regarding the Philosophy of Hospice, the role of the Volunteer as well as helpful skills in caring for and communicating with Hospice Patients and their Families. Volunteer hours are flexible and scheduled according to the patients and families needs.

The goal of Hospice Care is not to "cure" but to provide "comfort care" at the end of a Person's life. Together, as an interactive Team, our Volunteers and Staff strive to make life as comfortable and fulfilling as possible to the very last moment of life.

If you are interested in this wonderful opportunity and commit to a minimum of six months, please contact Volunteer Coordinator kathleen.kennedy@hcr-manorcare.com.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Together, we can do great things!

Mission Statement

Heartland Hospice provides specialized care that meets the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and loved ones facing the challenges of end of life. The quality of life for those we serve is enhanced by encouraging personal choices, supporting meaningful experiences and preserving dignity. Every day, we enrich the lives of our patients and the people who love them by blending advanced medical care with a compassionate touch.

Description

Heartland Hospice offers hospice services wherever a patient calls home, whether the care is provided in a home setting, assisted living facility or skilled nursing center. We are committed to caring for the mind, body and spirit. Our specially trained staff helps manage pain and symptoms, thereby enabling patients to live their lives as fully as possible. In addition, our team members create a comforting environment and provide emotional support to families who need help coping with the loss of a loved one.

To serve as our guiding principles, we've created the Heartland Caring Promises: We promise to care for the mind, body and spirit. We promise to provide care that is comforting and compassionate. We promise to respect patient and family choices. We promise to unite with community partners in care. We promise to be accepting and supportive of patients wherever they are in life's journey.

The hospice volunteer offers support, companionship and assistance with non-medical tasks to help this special group of people. The hospice volunteer program ensures that patients spend their final days in dignity and comfort and provide the extra love and care our clients and their families need at this time in their life.
