Medical Referral Intake Assistant

At Make-A-Wish, we grant wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. The Greater Bay Area Chapter is headquartered in Oakland, and covers 17 counties of Northern California, granting close to 400 wishes per year. The Program Department is looking for a volunteer to assist with data entry of newly-referred families, processing medical eligibility paperwork and making welcome calls to wish families.

We are looking for a volunteer who can help 7-8 hours per week. We can figure out what timing works best, but the ideal schedule would be two shifts per week on a regular basis, or one full day per week We require that the volunteer can agree to a minimum six-month commitment. All the office work will be done at the Make-A-Wish office in Oakland, right above the 12th Street BART Station.

Duties include:

• Data entry of new referrals into Raiser’s Edge database
• Processing medical eligibility paperwork.
• Making welcome calls to wish families.
• Following up with medical teams about medical eligibility and wish safety.

The volunteer should be an organized, administrative volunteer with an attention to detail and data entry experience. The volunteer must possess excellent communication skills and be flexible as we introduce this new role within our team. Experience with Raiser’s Edge is desirable. The Referral Intake Assistant must be at least 18 years old.
