The BarberQue project aims to raise awareness around the issue of homelessness in Chicago by marrying the functionality of a barbershop with the delicious grub of a barbecue. This annual event provides food, haircuts, and so much more. We believe every person deserves to live with dignity. Because of that, the BarberQue event includes: - a haircut, shave & shampoo - a family-style barbecue meal - a food grab-bag - a toiletry grab-bag - clothing (including shoes, socks and underwear) Access to social service organzations, including: - local shelters - clothing providers - food access/food pantries - employment opportunities - mental health providers - substance abuse assistance WHEN? Description
The Kells Park Community Council is a non-profit in West Humboldt Park that is dedicated to hosting free, safe, community events in Kells Park (3201 W Chicago) and all throughout the West Humboldt Park Community. Kells Park Community Council partners with several other community initiatives such as BarberQue, Ujima Community Garden, and the West Humboldt Park Farmers Market to continue to cultivate neighborhood growth and a sense of community.
