Description, Impact and Benefits: The Volunteer in this position will perform duties intended to enhance and improve the overall patient experience from lobby, to rooming, to discharge, applying principles of the AIDET model of customer service.

Typical responsibilities will include:
* Greeting patients as they arrive
* Directing patients to various clinic locations (wings, laboratory, etc...)
* Answering general questions regarding Sea Mar services
* Ensuring lobby area remains inviting and tidy at all times; may include some light cleaning
* Monitoring cleanliness of patient restrooms
* Restocking brochures, maintaining bulletin boards
* Informing patients re: Star board and how to use it
* Facilitating patient departure
* Light administrative work
* Working in conjunction with back office staff to ensure that patients are updated on the status of their appointment time appropriately (manage expectations for visit length using AIDET model)
* Interact and engage with patients in a culturally appropriate manner
* Utilize 2nd language as necessary, i.e. light translation services as required
* Engage with children in lobby play area (Reach out & Read program)
* Other duties as assigned

This Volunteer will play a valuable role in enhancing patient satisfaction. By providing information, responding to questions, and providing warm handoffs to clinical staff, this Volunteer will help improve the patient experience when visiting Sea Mar. This will translate to improved patient satisfaction scores and better patient outcomes.

The Volunteer will receive valuable customer service experience, deeper community integration, and the satisfaction of helping underserved populations gain access and navigate a complex system with greater comfort and less stress. Desired Qualifications: Successful volunteers will have the following skills:
* Excellent verbal communication skills
* Willingness to develop a deeper understanding of Sea Mar clinic processes and services
* Interpersonal skills including patience, empathy, and a calm, professional demeanor
* Attention to detail and an ability to prioritize work
* Self-directed, once trained.
* Bilingual preferred but not required (Spanish)
* Must strictly adhere to HIPAA compliance and other Sea Mar policies Hours and Duration: A commitment of a minimum of 4 hours weekly over a period of 6 months is required. The hours can be scheduled with the supervisor to meet the volunteer’s availability.
