Please visit the new page to apply.
Legal Aid of Sonoma County (LASC) provides various free legal services to their clients in the areas of domestic violence, unlawful detainers (evictions), guardianship and elder law. While Legal Aid does have a dedicated staff to help its clients, they would not be able to provide the help that they do without the commitment of many volunteers.
Legal Aid volunteers come from a variety of different backgrounds bringing a lot of diverse skill sets and experiences. Volunteers consist of attorneys, paralegals, college and law students, as well as community volunteers.
Community Volunteers are responsible for conducting a variety of tasks around the office, including but not limited to:
- Answering clients' questions regarding the services that Legal Aid provides. If unable to help, volunteers must be able to refer the client to the appropriate organization.
- Take client information and input it into the PIKA computer database.
- Check for conflicts of interest when dealing with a new client, using the PIKA database.
- Be able to interact and communicate with clients who come from a variety of different backgrounds and may or may not have some sort of physical, mental or emotional issues.
In addition, the longer community volunteers stay with Legal Aid, the more opportunities they will have to expand their understanding of the legal field.
