The State Library of Oregon has books stored in areas that are not open to the public. Here is your chance to go behind the scenes and see this unique part of the collection. This project will involve moving books and cleaning off shelves. It involves assisting staff in vacuuming the serial set and the shelves that they are housed on. The volunteer will be exposed to dust but will be provided personal protective equipment to wear. The volunteer will repeatedly climb up and down a ladder and will be required to lift books.

State Library staff are encouraged to assist in the creation of meaningful, productive, and varied roles volunteers can fill throughout the library. The Volunteer Coordinator provides oversight of the agency’s volunteer program.
Description
The State Library of Oregon cultivates, preserves, and delivers library and information services to foster lifelong leaning and community engagement.
There are three main divisions of the State Library:
Government Information and Library Services provides research and reference assistance to state government and to persons on official state business. Their in-depth collection of more than one million items specializes in business, history, political and social sciences. The collection also includes federal and state government publications and a comprehensive collection of materials about Oregon.
Library Support and Development Services plans for statewide library development; consults with local librarians, citizens and government officials; reports library statistics; and administers state and federal library grant programs.
The Talking Book and Braille Library is the regional library for the Library of Congress' National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled. Oregonians who are unable to read standard print because of a visual, physical, or reading disability are eligible to receive free audio and Braille materials either through the mail or via download.
