Volunteers for OCNEP run the exchange, which can include everything from handing out sterile supplies to providing clients with important resource referrals.
Beyond the actual excahange, we have more opportunities for volunteers to do other behind-the-scenes tasks, including helping with inventory management, training other volunteers, engaging with the community, grant writing, managing data, etc.
If you fall in love with OCNEP, we have lots of leadership opportunities available as well. We are a young nonprofit organization and would love to have you be a part of our journey!

About ORANGE COUNTY NEEDLE EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Location:
1605 N SPURGEON ST, SANTA ANA, CA 92701, US
Mission Statement
OCNEP’s mission is to prevent the transmission of HIV, hepatitis C, and other infectious diseases by providing access to sterile needles, facilitating the safe disposal of used syringes, and providing access to safer injection and safer sex supplies. To combat the growing epidemic of opiate overdoses, we partner with the Solace Foundation to distribute naloxone- an overdose reversal agent- to our clients. OCNEP empowers community members by providing referrals to health care, health education, HIV testing and services, substance abuse treatment, and homelessness support.
Description
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer-run, anonymous needle exchange located in Orange County, grounded in harm reduction and evidence-based principles. We are certified by the California Department of Public Health Syringe Exchange Certification Program. As we survive solely on donations and grants, and are run entirely by volunteers, please consider joining us!
We provide:
- Access to clean syringes
- Safe disposal of used syringes
- On-site HIV and hepatitis C testing
- Referrals to health, housing, and treatment services, if requested
- Other harm reduction and safer-sex supplies and information
- Feminine hygeine products
The needle exchange is open every Saturday from 1-3pm in the Santa Ana Civic Center. If you are passionate about helping your community, we want you on our team. Volunteers for OCNEP run the exchange, manage our finances, develop research protocols, listen to feedback, and everything else related to the program.
