AlexandriaAlexandria, VA 22311

Through the "First Friend" mentorship opportunity, ECDC pairs local volunteers with refugee families that would benefit from a bit more assistance adjusting to their new environment.

Often this assistance takes the form of teaching or practicing English, helping look for new/improved employment, learning public transportation and the area, etc., based on the specific family's needs.

Whereas our other volunteer opportunities require weekday/daytime availability, this mentorship takes place independently of ECDC, and meetings with the refugee families often take place on evenings or weekends, making it a popular option for families or working professionals.

Time commitment is approximately 10-20 hours per month for 4-6 months.

Please contact if you are interested in being a "First Friend" and we'll let you know about the process for joining!
