The Overnight Host provides a high level of care as they oversee the well being of all those residing in the Pettigrew Emergency Homeless Shelter.

Volunteers serve one to two nights per month in the overnight hours to assist with client needs. Volunteers may sleep in a private bedroom with a private bathroom, but must be able to respond to clients in need.

Training is provided and staff is on call as back up in emergency situations.

Stephen Center partners with the community, families and individuals to overcome homelessness, addiction and poverty.

Description

Stephen Center, Inc has served the homeless and low-income men, women and children in Omaha since 1984. We were founded by Sharon and Dick McNeil, a couple that was determined to focus on the particular needs of the poor in south Omaha.

Emergency Shelter:
-32 beds for men, 32 beds for women, 4 family rooms
-Only Dry Shelter in the Metro Area
-30 day emergency stay shelter
-Staffed 24 Hours a Day
-Case management and supportive services available

HERO Program:
-State-Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Program
-Evidence-Based Twelve Step Supported Program
-Serves Those with a Co-Occuring Mental Illness
-Juvenile program established in 2016

Permanent Supportive Housing Units:
- 61 Housing Units
-Supportive services for those moving from homelessness to independent supportive living

Transitional Living Program:
-Utilizaes a Strength-Based Case managemet Philosophy
-Focuses on Participants Attaining Self-Sufficiency and Building Self-Esteem

Thrift Store:
-Clothing and various items provided to Stephen Center clients via voucher system
-Provides jobs and job training for Stephen Center residents.
