Cram the Van 2012
Help Escambia Schools Cram the Van!!!!

Cram the Van, the school district approved supply drive, will kick off June for the 2017-2018 school year. Serving the community since 1999, Cram the Van provides students with the tools necessary to succeed and reduces the stress on teachers who spend their own money to supplement materials in the classroom. In Escambia County, 61 percent of our students are eligible for free or reduced lunches. By combining resources, our community can show a united effort as it supports our schools to ensure a brighter tomorrow.

In 2016, our generous community distributed $78,000 in supplies to 61 area schools, helping over 9,300 children in need. 130 volunteers gave 630 hours of their time to sort, count and package supplies. Over 35 local businesses held collection drives or donated supplies. Countless members of our community came together to ensure the success of our students and made a $94,000 impact in our schools.

Ways to get involved:

GIVE: Businesses and organizations can host a collection drive or make a donation. Individuals can drop off supplies at various locations in Escambia County. Why GIVE? Through collection drive efforts and donations, we can directly impact our students' ability to learn and send them back to school with a smile.

VOLUNTEER: Many exciting opportunities are available for individuals and groups to volunteer with Cram the Van. Volunteer at the annual Cram-A-Thon or help with the sorting, counting and distributing of school supplies. Why VOLUNTEER? Our volunteers play an integral part in the success of the program's ability to allocate the donated supplies and calculate the collective impact.

Mission Statement

Uniting our community and leveraging resources to improve lives.

Description

ABOUT UNITED WAY OF ESCAMBIA COUNTY

The United Way of Escambia County's mission is uniting our community and leveraging resources to improve lives. Through the decades, the local campaign has partnered with other charitable entities. In 1943, still known as Community Chest, United Way partnered with the War Fund Drive, creating the first link between the local organization and federal employees.

Since 1988, the United Way has implemented the policy of funding specific agency programs rather than agencies themselves. Currently, United Way funding supports 37 programs at 25 local nonprofit agencies. Donor committees decide on fund distribution and carefully monitor results.

United Way advances the common good by creating opportunities for a better life for all. Based on a 2006 survey, we determined that the community needs requires a focus on education, financial stability and health - the building blocks for a good quality of life. We recruit the people and organizations from all across the community who bring the passion, expertise and resources needed to get things done.

We invite you to be part of the change. You can give, you can advocate and you can volunteer. That's what it means to LIVE UNITED.
