Hair Dresser/Barber Volunteers - AseraCare Hospice seeks caring, compassionate individuals who would be willing to spend a few hours a month (as needed)shampooing, cutting, trimming, and styling the hair of our terminally ill patients. Hair Dresser /Barber Volunteers spend quality time with our patients and provide special care and attention, allowing our patients to feel better and special. Volunteers play an important role in providing social support and decreasing isolation that can so often occur for the terminally ill.
Volunteers are provided free training, a training certificate, and can work flexible hours that suit their individual schedules. Volunteers are trained and supervised by the Volunteer Coordinator.
Interpersonal Skills: Volunteers need to be able to engage in conversations with patients who communicate on different cognitive levels. Some patients may not be able to or choose not to communicate while others will look forward to talking with you about many different topics.

*Out of respect for the grieving process, if you are a surviving family member, we encourage you to wait a minimum of 13 months following the patient's death to serve as a direct care volunteer or in public relations activities.
About Aseracare Hospice, York
44 Bowman Road, York, PA 17408, US
Our mission is to share our passion for improving quality of life through innovative healthcare, one person, one family, and one community at a time.
Hospice is a program of supportive services for terminally ill patients and their families. An interdisciplinary team of nurses, social workers, home health aides, spiritual care coordinators, therapists and volunteers work together to provide individualized services. All team members are trained in providing emotional support to the patient and family. The hospice team goes to the patient, whether they are living in private homes, nursing homes, hospitals or assisted living communities.
Hospice neither prolongs life nor hastens death. Rather, its goal is to affirm life and encourage the patient to maintain control over decisions that affect his or her quality of life. Support is available 24 hours a day. Hospice care is ready to meet the everchanging physical, emotional, and spiritual needs experienced by the patient and family during the dying and bereavement process.
