ORGANIZATION: New Directions Housing Corporation
Please visit the new page to apply.
The New Directions Summer Program at Jackson-Woods provides affordable educational summer programming to elementary aged kids in Louisville. With 4 locations around the Louisville area, our aim is to provide continuous educational benefits for kids in need in order to curb summer learning loss as well as provide a safe space for kids during the summertime. Our program features weekly field trips, free breakfast and lunch, a comprehensive gardening curriculum with gardens on site, multiple different community member-led workshops covering a variety of topics, art projects, science projects, and more! Our program runs from June 12 - July 21, from 9AM-4PM, and we serve kids aged 5-11.
We need additional support at every center in the form of volunteers to boost the efficacy of our program. With only 2 staff members at each site, our program would greatly benefit from some extra support in order to facilitate an effective learning environment during teaching of lessons, leading of activities, keeping kids on task, helping them with assignments, cleanup, distributing meals, etc.
