The AmeriCorps VISTA program, which is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service, engages AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members to make a 12-month commitment to helping poverty-fighting organizations within the community. Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters is recruiting for VISTA members to serve in a development position.

Projects will include strengthening the board communication plan with both the statewide Board of Directors as well as each local area’s Community Leadership Councils to improve organizational leadership, guidance, impact, and involvement across the state; updating program practices and materials to improve service to youth, families, and volunteers as well as to improve the program work process for case managers and supervisors; expanding organizational practices to coordinate statewide information collaboration in order to share program statistics with the community and enhance the networking and sharing of ideas among statewide staff members.

In return for their year of service, VISTA members receive a modest living allowance, health coverage, sick and personal days, job experience, and training. In addition, upon completing the 12-month commitment, VISTA members can choose from a $1,500 cash stipend or $5,550 voucher to be used to repay qualified student loans. The service year is also a great way to learn new skills and gain job experience.
