Thank you for your interest in Volunteering at Asana Hospice!

We are always seeking new Volunteers to serve our Hospice patients & their families.

VOLUNTEERS ARE LIFESAVERS!

Asana Hospice is GROWING by leaps & bounds!

We have Staff Offices in: Fort Worth & Gun Barrel City, & we are in need of Volunteers for BOTH of these Offices, in various capacities!

Step #1:

All potential Volunteers are required to complete/provide the following information for our Hospice Volunteer Training. These are usually provided prior to Training so you can complete them & bring with you to Training, & copies are also provided at Training.

  • Volunteer Applications (2)
  • Statement of Employability (A thorough pre-screening criminal history check will be completed)
  • Adults: Current driver’s license (this MUST be kept current in our files & as it expires we will contact you for an immediate update)
  • Adults: Current car insurance (this MUST be kept current for our files & when it expires we will contact you for an immediate update)
  • Copy of your Social Security Card/Passport
    • Note: Teens will be required to obtain parental consent for 2 step TB Vaccination & Training.

You can also Scan/email completed documents to Kasey Greenwell

OR: Fax to: Asana Hospice Attn: Kasey Greenwell at 817-570-7190

OR: Mail to: Attn: Kasey Greenwell - Volunteer Coordinator

Step #2:

Our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you to schedule you for one of our NEW Hospice Volunteer Training Sessions. All Volunteers are required to attend a "4.5" hour Training & Orientation at one of our Hospice Staff Offices (unless other arrangements are made for a location elsewhere). In addition to the previously provided information above, you will also need to complete the following during Training:

  • An ANNUAL 2 Step "TB Vaccination" (at our expense in one of our Offices) or Chest X-Ray if necessary (at our expense & at your convenience). You will be asked to send a photo of your TB arm within "2" days for each of the "2" TB Vaccinations to have a Nurse "look" at your arm OR you may be asked to drop by the office for review of your TB arm by a nurse). If you have previously had a TB Vaccination within 1 year, you may provide a copy of the documentation at the time of Training.
  • Complete our HEP B Form (you don’t need to have a HEP B Vaccination but it is helpful to know either way)
  • Provide us a minimum of 2 references (name, phone, email)
  • Additional documentation required during the Training Session including Teen Parental consent "as applicable".
  • I-9 Form, which requires 2 photo IDs.

Minimum Age:

No minimum age, however this will be at the discretion of the Volunteer Coordinator & Parent(s) of interested Teen Volunteers to determine their maturity level.

There are many ways you can Volunteer your time with Asana Hospice. Our primary Volunteer opportunities are as follows:

Office/Administrative Volunteer/Hospice Survey Callers: Work in one of our Hospice Staff Offices (Fort Worth or Gun Barrel City) doing general administrative duties such as filing, photocopying, faxing, scanning, putting binders/folders together, organizing, general computer skills, possibly making phone calls for various events, Hospice Surveys, addressing Bereavement envelopes, etc. Our regular office staff hours are between the hours of: M - F 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (on-call is available 24 X 7 for emergencies).

Direct Patient Volunteers: Works directly with patients & their families in the Community. Our patients are "everywhere" in the surrounding Cities of each of our 2 Offices & beyond & we travel to" see/visit" our patients, wherever they may be (Home, Nursing Home, Assisted Living, Retirement Center, etc.). Volunteer possibilities are endless! This includes: being a committed listener, providing companionship & support, friendship, VERY light housekeeping as needed, much needed relief for a Caregiver/normally in a Home setting, reading, music, pushing their wheelchair around a Facility, bedside presence & offer lotion/hand massage to patients & their caregivers, watching TV with them, talking, sharing life stories, running errands, creating a memory book, looking at family photos, painting fingernails, helping Facility Activity Directors, etc. Volunteers are NOT allowed to provide any hands-on care or drive patients/families in a vehicle & we CANNOT feed patients. You are there "in case" of an emergency & you are "another" pair of eyes. Volunteering is normally done during "your available time" and/or as agreed upon with the patient/family/Volunteer Coordinator. This could be weekdays, evenings, weekends or Holidays. A 2-4 hour weekly visit commitment is STRONGLY requested. We ask our Direct Patient Volunteers to see patients 1 X week or a MINIMUM of every other week. ALL Volunteers are REQUIRED to complete documentation for each visit, for each Patient, in a timely manner & provide to the Volunteer Coordinator.

Bereavement/Bereavement Call Volunteers: Provides Clerical assistance for our Bereavement Coordinator, doing monthly mailings, copying, filing, possibly attending Funeral Service(s), etc. You will record your visit appropriately. This could also entail making calls and/or visits with the bereaved families following the death of their loved one (if you are interested) & additional training (Bereavement Support Training with our Bereavement Coordinator) is required beyond the normal "4" hour Volunteer Training & Orientation, depending on the need.

Teen Volunteers: Can provide but are not limited to: Bedside presence & offer lotion/hand massage to patients & their caregivers; help with administrative duties such as answering the phones, putting away boxes, organizing supply closets; help patients document their lives through projects such as videotaping/journaling, or creating memory boards &/or scrap books; help Facility Activity Directors with Bingo/Games & other activities with the Residents; attend Agency special events, deliver Teddy Bears & participate in patient Birthday Blessings. They will be required to attend Training, obtain parental consent, obtain a TB test, document their activities & provide to the Volunteer Coordinator, same as our Adult Volunteers.

Veteran Volunteers:Same as the Direct Patient Volunteers, primarily with Veteran Patients, more from a Military experience, sharing war stories where appropriate, "thank them for their Military Service", give them a special Military cards & pins (provided by Asana Hospice & "We Honor Veterans (WHV)" Program sponsored by the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) & the VA), present them a flag where appropriate. Additional Training/shadowing available with our current "seasoned" Veteran Volunteer(s). This is a very unique Volunteer opportunity.

Music Therapy Volunteers: Same as the Direct Patient Volunteers in "some cases". Perform for various Facilities where we have current Hospice Patients, various Holidays & Events, or with patient one-on-one "as needed", work with Volunteer Coordinator to coordinate monthly Facility Activity schedules "as your time permits". Will be discussed further during Training.

Expectations (it is fairly painless, but definitely requires a commitment from you!):

- Volunteering for Asana Hospice is a "1" year commitment (or forever)!

- You are expected to provide regular documentation of your Volunteer Time, Notes, etc.

- You are expected to provide timely updates to expired documents.

- You are expected to complete Annual In-Service Materials.

- You are expected to be "where we agree you’ll be"!

After steps 1 & 2 are completed above, you will then become an ACTIVE Volunteer with Asana Hospice! After your investment of time & effort, we want you to be one of our committed, valued, priceless Volunteers! Our Volunteer Coordinator will ALWAYS accompany new Direct Patient Volunteers the first time & subsequently as needed. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time & interest in Volunteering for Asana Hospice!
