Hospital Accompaniment Volunteer We are looking for enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers to be a part of our Hospital Accompaniment Team! The Hospital Accompaniment Team provides advocates to respond to calls to meet with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence and provide resources and support. Volunteers will play a crucial role in assisting survivors understand their rights and relay information from medical staff.
Responsibilities
* Providing supportive services to individuals experiencing crisis related to domestic and/or sexual violence
* Providing supportive services and work with survivor to schedule follow-up services with Avalon
* Courteous, precise communication with staff, volunteers and survivors
* Ability to work with program specific volunteers.
* Adhere to Avalon’s client data confidentiality policy
Requirements
* Able to be on-call (commit to at least 4 days of the month-including weekends and holidays)
* Must have reliable transportation to respond to hospital calls
* Have reliable communication (cell phone, home phone)
* Experience with people from diverse backgrounds
* Completion of annual criminal history background review
* Local to Greater Williamsburg (Has to be able to respond to the hospital in 30 minutes)
Training
* Attend Volunteer Orientation and Training
* Attend Hospital Accompaniment Training
* Get a tour of the Hospital and meet with SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Coordinator
