ORGANIZATION: Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care

Support patients and families during their journey through illness. Patients reside in their private residence or a long term care facility. Volunteers are matched one-on-one with a patient and family in their area. When assigned, volunteers generally offer 2-4 hours a week and provide respite for the family caregiver allowing for a much needed break. While volunteers stay with the patient, they offer companionship, comfort, may reminisce and even help record the patient's life story. Volunteers help ease burdens by assisting with errands, transportation and household chores. Some volunteers offer their presence in the patient's final hours.

Description

Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care is a nonprofit organization offering a range of services for people of all ages and at any stage of serious illness. We've been providing comfort and care to the seriously ill and their families in the greater Kansas City area since 1980.

By providing both hospice and palliative care, we are able to assist patients and their loved ones at any time following a serious diagnosis. Hospice is provided when the focus is primarily on comfort; palliative care is provided when it is too early for hospice care and the patient may be seeking treatment aimed at cure.
