Reunification Day honors and celebrates parents and children who have successfully achieved safe, permanent, and nurturing homes.
The families being honored each have their own story of struggle and overcoming those obstacles which created safety risks for their children. Services that some of the parents have successfully completed include, but are not limited to, individual counseling, trauma therapy, family counselling, domestic violence programs, mental health treatment and maintenance programs, substance abuse treatment and testing, General Education Diploma programs, employment programs, housing programs, and parenting education programs. These services are intense and intended to address and remedy the safety risks that brought their children into care.
In honor of these parents, today’s program includes the following activities:
- A Professional Family Photograph
- A Picture Frame Decorated by the Family for their Family Photograph
- Participation in Placing their Finger Prints on the Family Reunification Day Celebration Tree
- A Kids Craft Table including Face Painting and Balloon Animals
- Lunch
- A Celebration Program including speakers and entertainment
Volunteers are needed to help with each of these activities as well as to act as Family Guides.
