OT TEAM

Managing Director

Are you the dynamic, experienced and can-do leader we’re looking for? We’re on the hunt for a highly competent Managing Director to join our dedicated team of volunteers, who run a small but passionate environmental nonprofit organization (Our Task) in Arlington, Virginia

Our Task is a community of global citizens who are concerned about the future of the planet. We are a non-profit that is run 100% by volunteers from all over the world. Our mission is to transform young adults into global thinkers and empower them to lead the next generation in building a sustainable future.

We are looking for a passionate and committed volunteer who would be interested in running our dynamic organization on a daily basis. You will be joining a collaborative, organic style team and will be expected to oversee and lead the team of passionate volunteers to achieve results and to implement a new strategy. You will be working with three other Directors, a small but active Board, 10 core team members and a dozen of volunteers from across the world. This position is long-term and requires at least 16 hours a week but more is preferred. This position requires you to live in the D.C. area. The ideal candidate is either retired or will have enough time during the week to meet with potential clients, donors and volunteers.

For the last 10-year, we educated our volunteers and our communities on global issues and how these issues are interconnected. We seek to understand the bigger picture and how sustainable initiatives (Plan Bs) are an opportunity to move the world onto a more sustainable path. Beginning in 2017, we made some significant changes to our organization and structure. For six-months at a time, we have decided that all our organizational efforts will be driven by a single key environmental issue. During each six month 'interval’, the team will develop a set of events and activities that will empower young adults with the information they need to make changes and influence the world around them. Soil is the focus of our first interval, followed by food the back end of the year. We will finish the year with the Earth 2100 Conference for young adults in D.C. and Lilongwe, Malawi. This new programming strategy is at its beginning stage and we learn by doing. We hope to have developed a 3-year strategy for Our Task by the end of 2017. You will be part of this new and exciting chapter of Our Task!

Key responsibilities would include but are not limited to:

  • You will be responsible (with three others) for the overall success of Our Task;
  • Develop and executive OT’s 3-year strategy;
  • Develop and executive OT’s annual programming strategy;
  • Communicate and maintain good relationships with the Board members, Directors, Core Team members and volunteers;
  • Delegate responsibilities and oversee committees;
  • Recruit and meet new volunteers;
  • Support and empower OT’s volunteers;
  • Coordinate the effort to implement OT’s mission;
  • Oversee administrative operations of OT;
  • Act as a senior (but not the only) public "face".

Mission Statement

Our Task’s Mission is to transform young adults into global thinkers and empower them to lead the next generation in building a sustainable future.

Description

We are an all-volunteer organization consisting of young adults, mentors and other global citizens who are concerned about the future of Earth.

Our Task envisions a shift in global civilization in which institutional and individual values are redirected from unsustainable growth and consumption toward a mutually enhancing relationship between humans and Earth. To achieve this vision, young people everywhere need to know the harm humanity is doing to Earth and where existing policies are taking us.

Our Task is working to give young adults a voice and create a healthy and sustainable future. If we can begin living "Plan B" lifestyles, and get others to as well, we can be a real force for change and can create the world we all dream of!

We work to recruit youth and mentors from all over the world to collaborate on global issues; educate ourselves and others on respected international studies; develop a realistic plan of action to bring ourselves, our children, and Earth safely through the 21st century; and engage our parents' and grandparents' generations in intergenerational dialogue on the changes needed, especially changes within the world's culture-shaping institutions.

Join us in building a mutually enhancing relationship between humans and Earth!
