Hunger prevents youth from reaching their potential and diminishes their capacity to learn. Summer Lunch VolunTEENS help ensure that hungry youth are fed and have a great summer at the library!
Key Responsibilities: Responsibilities will be shared by team members and may vary day to day.
- Provide excellent customer service with a positive & courteous attitude
- Set-up meal room, count meals, serve lunch and milk
- Play games, read to and do crafts with youth
- Clear and wipe tables throughout meal service
- Ensure program rules are followed by all participants
- Clean up at the end of the mealtime
- Communicate clearly with supervisor
Time Commitment: At least 1 day/wk each week from June 12-August 4, 2017 from approximately 12-2pm.
Requirements:
- One hour on-site Program Orientation (date to be determined)
- Completion of the online food safety certification course. This course is 1-2 hours, paid for by the library, and counts towards volunteer hours
- Completion of all volunteer enrollment documents, with parental signature

Whether providing one on one literacy tutoring, cutting out craft supplies for story time activities, helping serve summer lunch at the library, or serving as a Friend of the Library, all volunteers play a role in the work of LAPL.
If you would like to volunteer, but don't see a listing that matches your interests, please contact your local branch or the Volunteer Engagement Office. Opportunities and needs vary by location and fluctuate throughout the year.
Please note that the minimum age for volunteers is 14 (with the exception of 11-13-year-olds joining Teen Councils), minimum time commitments are required for most opportunities, adult volunteers working with children will be fingerprinted, and LAPL does not accept court-mandated community service.
