Mission Statement

Our mission is promoting child’s rights, promotion of volunteering spirit and community stewardship

Description

Gisimba Memorial Center has long been a home for vulnerable children. It was one of the oldest and well-reputed orphan’s residencies in Rwanda. In 2012, Rwanda adopted "A Child Care Reform" where all children living in orphanages were to be integrated into foster families and community.

It is in that perspective that Gisimba Memorial Center responded to the change and initiated a childhood development program called Gisimba Afterschool Program Initiative in order to progress with developing vulnerable children from surrounding community.

Gisimba Afterchool Program Initiative enrolls over 150 children who are provided with Enrichment, recreational and Educational programmes in out of school hours for their social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. There is no enrollment fees in order to facilitate most vulnerable children and give them opportunity that are only accessed by not more than 12% of children having access to childhood development care in the whole country.

The program encompasses educational, recreational and enriching activities to enhance children’s capacity and development. For a successful completion of its objectives, GisimbaAfterschool Program Initiative adopted quality standards referring to already established New Jersey Quality Standards for Afterschool.

Gisimba Memorial Association is held responsible for managing Gisimba Afterschool Program Initiative.
