Opportunity Overview Francis William Bird Park seeks volunteers to assist at various public events. Volunteers may be asked to work off hours, as the events may occur on weekends or after working hours. This is a hands-on opportunity that will allow volunteers to connect more deeply with the community and the park, while also developing more skills around event planning and hosting. Successful volunteers are friendly, enthusiastic, willing to learn on the job, reliable, and good representatives of the Trustees.

Responsibilities * Assist with various event tasks, set up and clean up included * Manage some event tasks independently * Assist the Engagement Site Manager with tasks during events to ensure smooth running of event * Log volunteer hours Qualifications * Some experience working on events (with adults or children) desired, but not required * Interest in community engagement * Some knowledge about the property and The Trustees desired, but not required * Able to handle basic physical tasks (lift small objects, walk short distances) during events * Good work ethic and reliable

Time Commitment Variable, depending on volunteer availability. Ideal candidates will volunteer at two events (2-4 hours/event) per month, though more in busy season (summer and fall) would be appreciated.

Events include Ice Cream Social -- June 17, 3:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. This is one of Bird Park’s most popular events, drawing 1000-2000 people. The event offers ice cream (with all the toppings), pizza, live music, face-painting, and organized games. Volunteers may assist in a variety of ways, including scooping ice cream, greeting/directing people, and staffing tables. Volunteers may be asked to attend a volunteer meeting prior to the event.

Dog Day Volunteer -- September 9, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Francis William Bird Park seeks volunteers to assist at Dog Day on September 9, 2017. The event is from 10:00 am-2:00 pm. This is the 1st Dog Day at Bird Park, which has a large dog-walking community. At this event, dogs and their owners can compete in a Disc Dog Competition, see a Disc Dog Demonstration, sign up for a Disc Dog Workshop, participate in a very silly "Best in Show," enjoy refreshments, and shop for doggie goods on site for the event. Disc dog (a.k.a. Frisbee dog) is a dog sport. Volunteers may assist in a variety of ways, including greeting/directing people, being a judge for "Best in Show," and staffing tables. Volunteers may be asked to attend a volunteer meeting prior to the event. NOTE: Ideal candidates will be able to assist for the whole event, including set up and cleanup or be able to serve as a judge or facilitator of the "Best in Show" competition.

Notch Brewing Biergartens -- August 25, 2018 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
After a long New England winter, the warm months feel especially balm-filled and precious, and our desire to spend as much time outside feels both urgent and medicinal. In that spirit, The Trustees and Salem-based craft brewery Notch Brewing are pleased to announce a new partnership to bring a series of family-friendly, outdoor 'biergarten’ experiences to some of our parks, farms, and cultural sites this year. Bird NOTE: Ideal candidate must be over 21.
