Mission Statement

The mission of the Family Violence Prevention Center of Greene County is to reduce family violence and its impact in Greene County.

Description

The Family Violence Prevention Center is dedicated to serving victims of domestic violence. Our programs can be broken into four key areas: Residential, Outreach, Intervention and Prevention.

Residential - Our residential program provides immediate safety and support to those fleeing violent situations. Clients are offered case management, individual and group counseling for children and adults, and education/training. While staying in the shelter, clients have the opportunity to learn, grow, and build themselves up to the person they want to be. When they leave our facility, they are ready for a fresh start leading violence free lives. To support shelter residents as they transition into independence, case management and support is available to those who are interested, following their time in residential services.

Prevention - Our Prevention Education Program received a "top ranking" nationally by the Federal Office of Education and the Office of Family Violence Prevention. This program provides a series of three sessions on violence prevention and education, free of charge, to the seven school districts in Greene County. Through this program, students learn about healthy dating relationships, conflict resolution skills, how to recognize domestic violence, and other important information. Each year, this program serves about 4,000 students.

Intervention - FVPC provides intervention services including: DIVERT (Domestic Intervention for Violence Emergency Response Team), emergency hospital response, Batterer's Intervention and our 24 hour crisis hotline. The DIVERT program is a collaboration with local law enforcement to respond to cases of domestic violence or domestic disputes. This program demonstrates the importance of domestic violence advocates working closely with law enforcement. Staff is also available to provide support to any person in the hospital because of an injury sustained in a domestic violence incident. Batterer's Intervention programming is offered at an offsite location. This program helps batterer's break the cycle of violence in their life they have become so accustom. Lastly, our 24 hour crisis hotline provides support, information and referrals to any caller.

Outreach - Our outreach services help to meet the needs of clients who are not currently part of our residential program. Individual and group counseling sessions are available to community residents. Our Healthy Homes program offers non-residential clients the opportunity to learn both the legal and social impacts of domestic violence. Our Smiles program provides children with psyco-educational sessions with trained and caring staff members. Our Voices program provides services and support to teenagers who have lived in a home with domestic violence. The Smiles and Voices programs together offer children and youth with the opportunity to be heard and to learn how to move toward violence free futures in age appropriate ways.
