DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT / PURPOSE OF ASSIGNMENT:

Our mission is to connect families with the instruction and tools to power early STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math) learning. As part of our outreach, Science Tots partners with establishedbusinessesto create fun hands-on learning experiences where families can try easy and affordable STEAM activities. Science Tots needs assistance with all aspects of event planning and execution for our biggest event yet, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, on July 15th and 16th at Schenley Park.

OUTLINE OF VOLUNTEER’S RESPONSIBILITIES:

Event volunteers assist on the event day for set-up, overseeing and assisting families inside the tent, or clean up. Volunteers may also choose to be involved in event planning.

SUPPORT PLAN: Event volunteers work under the direction of Erica Peterson, Founder & Board President, who will provide task-specifictraining.

TIME COMMITMENT: Event day volunteers will typically be asked to commit at least 4 hours on the day of the event (Saturday or Sunday). There will also be a 1-hour mandatory training session and orientation where volunteers will learn how to use the equipment and do the STEAM activities at the event. Participation on an event planning committee will require a larger time commitment in the weeks preceding the event.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: Customer service experience is preferred. Child Abuse Clearance and Pennsylvania State Police Clearances are required. Minors under the age of 18 may volunteer with parental consent.

BENEFITS:

All Science Tots volunteers are invited to Science Tots' Annual Party, receive Science Tots' newsletter and receive credit in the Annual Report. Event volunteers also have the opportunity to learn new skills from professionals, meet others in the community, while supporting family engagement and early childhood STEAM education. Volunteers will be reimbursed for meals, travel, and parking. Volunteers will also receive Science Tots t-shirts.
