Support individuals living with memory loss by becoming a Staying Connected Program Facilitator.
The Alzheimer's Association is seeking out volunteers who are passionate about serving seniors affected by memory loss to facilitate our exciting new exercise program. Staying Connected is a health promotion and exercise program designed especially for individuals living with early stage memory loss and their companion.
The program is designed to incorporate what is known about successful exercise intervention with older adults who do not have cognitive impairment as well as exercise programs for older adults who have dementia. The volunteer facilitator promotes healthy activity through a focus on increasing physical activity and engaging in a regular home exercise program.
In four weeks you and your co-facilitator will help others learn:
- Safe stretching, strengthening, and endurance exercises
- The importance of rest and relaxation
- How to maintain and improve their balance and flexibility
- Tools to build strength for fall prevention
The Staying in Motion program is a 4 week series with one 90 minute session per week. Volunteers are assigned series dependent on their availability and location.
