DogFest Walk 'n Roll will engage communities across the country in an event that raises money to support the mission, recruits volunteers to help propel the mission, and educates the public about the life-changing work of Canine Companions for Independence, a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships.

The DogFest Phoenix Planning Committee is seeking a volunteer to spread the word about DogFest in the community! The Publicity Chair promotes DogFest to the media and local communities so people are aware of DogFest and register to put together teams and start fundraising.

Skill Set: Confident, Outgoing, Enthusiastic, Creative

Time Commitment: 2 hours/week

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the staff partner and vice chair - outreach (if applicable) to create an outreach plan that includes traditional outreach like TV, radio and local newspaper, as well as community marketing through organizational online and offline newsletters and calendars.
  • Headquarters and the staff partner have a plan for social media. The Publicity Chair will work with the staff partner on messaging and should be sure to repost headquarters’ DogFest posts, invite people to your DogFest Facebook event, and help the DogFest messages spread through social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc) by sharing, re-tweeting and liking posts on the official Canine Companions pages. Be sure to encourage people to use our hashtag, #DogFestWalknRoll. DogFest is a peer-to-peer event, so use your peer-to-peer tools through your personal social media accounts.
  • With the help of the staff partner, send newsletter content, news releases and human interest stories of Canine Companions graduates to media
  • Ensure DogFest posters and postcards get distributed in the community to encourage participations
  • Identify and lead outreach activities (parades, fairs, booths, etc.)
  • At DogFest, meet and greet media, take pictures to capture the event for Canine Companions
