Are you interested in tutoring a newly arrived refugee and helping them improve their English?

Our In-Home ESL Tutoring Program is a highly flexible volunteer opportunity where interested community members have the opportunity to work closely with newly arrived refugee clients, helping them adjust to their new lives in the United States and assisting them with English learning. Volunteers will be matched with an individual student or family and will serve as their ESL Tutor for a minimum of three months, meeting with students at least 2 hours per week. Our tutors will have total freedom regarding what they teach their students and can either work with their students in their private homes or at another neighborhood location (ie coffee shop, library, park).

The times and dates can be worked out to the tutor and student's convenience (weekends are fine!) and previous teaching or ESL experience is not required. All new volunteers will need to submit a background check and attend a mandatory orientation session.

If you would like to get started and begin volunteering at CWS today, please fill out a volunteer application on our website and include "Interest in In-Home ESL Tutoring" in the Goals & Visions section.
