Northside Community Support Program "is a unique community of hope and safety for people with mental illness where you can be yourself, develop natural supports, and learn strategies to move forward in the world". To this end, being able to have a fresh haircut every couple of months goes a long way towards helping someone feel so much better, as well as being a valued member of the community. Many times a person can’t afford new shoes or new clothing, but if you can just get that haircut, it’s a big deal, and a real boost in self-esteem.

Northside Community Support Program is interested in collaborating with a barber or barbershop who would be willing to provide free or low-cost haircuts for primarily African American men. We would be able to spend up to $5 per person, with a maximum of 10 people per visit. Typically, about 5-7 people participate. It is our hope that we could connect with a local (Northside) business that is interested in helping out fellow community members on a once-per-quarter basis. Wednesdays are usually our community outing days, so if we would be able to schedule on that particular day of the week, that would, indeed, be fantastic.

Description

People Incorporated Mental Health Services is a Twin Cities-based nonprofit providing a spectrum of services through nearly 60 programs in the greater metro area. Supporting mental health and wellness in our community through collaboration and integration of care is our mission, and it means that we provide people with mental illness with the help they need to avoid hospitalization and institutionalization and live hopeful, meaningful lives in the community. We specialize in serving people who have both mental illness, and a secondary impediment such as: Deafness, chemical dependency, a developmental disability, homelessness, or seizure disorder. We’re known for creating innovative services tailored to the needs of each individual-and we’ve been doing it successfully for nearly 50 years.
