ORGANIZATION: Rian Immigrant Center (formerly the Irish International Immigrant Center)

We have an immediate need for Haitian Creole speaking volunteers - please respond asap if you think you can be of assistance.

  1. The most urgent need is for a Haitian Creole speaking volunteer to help out an elderly Haitian woman who has a citizenship interview coming up on 5/31. Volunteer needed for the prep session and at the interview itself.

  2. Haitian Creole speaking volunteers who are comfortable with translating needed for upcoming TPS clinics and workshops. Also need these volunteers to potentially assist with translating documents from English into Haitian Creole.

These positions offer a wonderful opportunity for someone interested in immigration or social justice to become part of a team of people dedicated to helping Haitian immigrants in the local Boston area. This is a chance to make a difference in the lives of these immigrants and to gain an appreciation for diverse cultures while being part of an organization strongly rooted in its Irish culture.

Responsibilities include:

  • Attend clinics/appointment(s) with one of our attorneys to translate during client appointments

  • Assist attorney in filling out immigration forms for clients

Qualifications:
  • Haitian Creole language ability

  • A commitment to the overall mission and values of IIIC

  • Articulate, and clear communicator

  • Ability to handle confidential information with the highest level of discretion.

The Irish International Immigrant Center has supported Irish immigrants in Greater Boston since 1989 and has grown into a multi-service center for people from 120 countries helping them find their place in our shared society. Promoting civic engagement and facilitating cultural integration, we work in the US and also in Ireland. Advocating for social change, our vision is one of an integrated society in which all people are treated with respect, dignity and enjoy equal opportunities and protections.

The IIIC works independently, and in partnership with other organizations to maximize our services for our guests, advocate for the rights of immigrants and change legislation. We run a number of cross-community, cross-border programs through our partners in Northern Ireland for young unemployed adults. The IIIC is recognized for its work in promoting civic engagement and bridging cultural and other divides.
