POSITION SUMMARY: The Camp Kitchen Assistant Volunteer supports OMSI staff in food preparation and helps with dishes and other dining hall management duties. When camp assistant responsibilities are through each day, volunteers are welcome to participate in camp activities such as ecology based field studies, hikes, morning walks and some evening programming.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist camp staff with tasks necessary for successful camp kitchen operation. (May include washing dishes, food preparation and storage, cleaning of equipment, inventorying food products, as well as dining hall set up and clean up.)
- Assist with general camp duties such as campfire preparation and general camp clean-up as needed.
- Act as a positive role model for campers at all times.
- Work with and support other OMSI staff members.
- Assume other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Camp Manager.
- Self-directed and able to learn basic tasks and follow instructions.
- Must maintain a professional appearance and excellent hygiene.
- Effective communication skills in order to maintain positive and open communications with all campers, and staff.
- Basic knowledge of food handling, preparation and safety procedures preferred.
- Must be comfortable in an outdoor camp setting.
- Must be comfortable in a non-smoking, group environment.
- Must be 18 years old, minimum.
- Willing to follow OMSI rules and procedures.
- Training and a lifelong learning experience.
- Admission for the volunteer to the museum, theater and planetarium shows, and submarine tours.
- An OMSI Family Membership upon completion of 50 hours of volunteer service.
