Become a Girls on the Run Coach!
Girls on the Run is a unique, life-changing after-school program that has positively impacted over 7,000 girls in the midlands area. Meeting twice a week in small teams of 8-18 girls, volunteer coaches teach life skills through dynamic, conversation-based lessons and running games. The curricula has been shown to increase self-esteem and improve body image. Learn more by watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9_PC-fvdXA
You do not have to be an experienced runner to coach! Most teams meet two days per week in the early afternoon, starting around 2:30 or 3:00 p.m. This is a 10-week program with practices starting September 9. If you'd like to serve as an encouraging role model for girls, email info@gotrcolumbia.org.
Sites in Lexington, Kershaw, Richland, and Sumter counties are seeking coaches.

Mission Statement
We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
Description
Program
Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. We teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.
Lesson Content
Over a period of 12 weeks, the Girls on the Run lessons encourage positive emotional, social, mental and physical development. Participants explore and discuss their own beliefs around experiences and challenges girls face at this age. The 24-lesson curriculum is taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches and includes three parts: understanding ourselves, valuing relationships and teamwork and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large. Over the course of the program, girls will develop and improve competence, feel confidence in who they are, develop strength of character, respond to others and oneself with care andcompassion, create positive connections with peers and adults, and make a meaningful contribution to community and society. Physical activity is woven into our program to inspire an appreciation of fitness and to build habits that lead to a lifetime of health.
