Mission Statement

To create awareness of and support for grieving children and their families and to provide a safe atmosphere where healing can take place. It is our goal that with an organized community-based program, we will help children work through and process their emotions and share their feelings and experiences so they can become emotionally healthy.

Description

Good Grief of Northwest Ohio is a non-profit center offering free, open-ended peer support for children and teens who have lost a significant person in their lives. We are a 501c3 organization supported by donations and grants. We offer programming every other Tuesday night in our facility. These non-denominational programs begin with a family dinner followed by group sessions. Children and teens are divided into age appropriate groups while adult groups meet separately at the same time. Activtiies include painting, journaling, games, discussion circles, make believe play and crafts. Children's groups are facilitated by volunteers trained by our staff clinical counselor. Adult groups are facilitated by clincial counselors contracted with the center. Volunteer facilitators received 18 hours of training and meet as a group before and after sessions to ask questions and receive support.
