The Education Department is looking for friendly, energetic, personable individuals to provide support for all-ages educational programming. Our volunteers gather and prepare supplies, help with set-up and clean-up, assist education staff in facilitating hands-on experiences, help with way-finding, and provide a positive, meaningful museum experience. Examples of experiences education volunteers support include wood workshops, performances, and drop in family activities.
Required Skills- An energetic, genuine, and personable approach to working with visitors.
- Excellent communication skills, able to present information with great clarity and enthusiasm.
- Able to interact with visitors of all ages.
- Willingness to work both alone and in a team setting with staff and other volunteers.
- Able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Able to adapt to change and to be comfortable to respond to any questions.
- Able to use computers to track and communicate volunteer work duty and hours.
Program Schedule
Educational programming during the summer occurs primarily on Thursdays and Saturdays afternoons, and volunteer shifts are 3-5 hours.
Additional summer volunteer needs:
Wednesday, August 23 (5:00-9:30 pm), Teacher Appreciation Late Night
Requirements
The summer volunteer session is June 3 through September 4. Volunteers may stay on for additional seasons if desired.
Volunteers must commit to participating in at least 4 programs. Additionally, volunteers must attend one of the training and orientation sessions offered on June 3 (10:00 am-12:00 pm) or June 5 (6:30-8:30 pm) and complete all required paperwork by June 3, 2017.
Volunteers sign up for shifts within two weeks of the program and prepare for their assignments by reading advance materials.
Regular communication is by email, and Education Program Volunteers consistently communicate schedule changes, and find substitutes for shifts they have signed up for if their schedule changes.
