Position Description: WBAEFS Mobile Market Interns are responsible for helping to facilitate community food distribution events (mobile markets), and for helping to create a welcoming and judgement free experience for neighbors taking part in mobile markets.
Reports To: Market Coordinator
Time Commitment: All interns are asked to make at least a semester commitment of consistent weekly shifts during specified Mobile Market days/hours (to include every Tuesday, and once per month Friday and Saturday), and other special event days.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and/or assist staff and volunteers to prepare and deliver food for mobile markets, and to assist with clean-up activities.
- Coordinate and/or assist staff and volunteers with site set-up and food distribution for mobile markets including moving food and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs
- Welcome neighbors to mobile markets with friendly personality
- Help to collect and record information from neighbors
- Explain WBAEFS programs to neighbors
- Maintain communication with Market Coordinator regarding mobile market and volunteer activities as well as neighbor feedback
- Update electronic neighbor files/database with confidentiality
- Help to create a judgement free, welcoming environment for all
- Other projects as assigned
Qualifications:
- Affirm the mission of providing food and support to our neighbors in partnership with the communities of the White Bear Area
- Pass a background check (paid by WBAEFS)
- Ability to pass DOT physical exam (paid by WBAEFS) or current CDL
- Ability to safely operate 14’ box truck (instruction available)
- Ability to communicate with, and work cooperatively with volunteer teams and community partners during mobile market planning, preparation, and operations.
- Warm, friendly personality
- Ability to express compassion and empathy for neighbors in vulnerable situations
- Cultural sensitivity and understanding of serving people in poverty
- Ability to work outdoors in various environmental conditions
- Some data entry skills

The White Bear Area Emergency Food Shelf has been providing food to our neighbors in need since 1977. We do this in close partnership with our community - with individuals, churches, schools, businesses, neighborhood associations and other community groups.
Description
The White Bear Area Food Shelf (WBAFS) has served as a critical resource for families struggling with food insecurity since 1977. Over the past four decades, we have grown and improved our traditional food shelf programming in addition to creating new and innovative services to better meet the needs of our neighbors.
