MENTOR FOR MINDS MATTER DETROIT

As a mentor for Minds Matter Detroit you will support/advise high school students on all aspects of college prep-help them explore career paths, map out three-year plans, evaluate summer prep programs, narrow down on potential schools, and work on applications.

WHY VOLUNTEER?

As part of a growing network of community leaders Minds Matter offers:

* Leadership and professional development opportunities

* Networking and social activities

* Meaningful experiences and lasting relationships with students

HOW IT WORKS

Each student will be paired with 2 dedicated mentors. These mentors will support the students throughout 27 sessions.

THE COMMITMENT

We ask for 30 hours a year: 1 and a half hours every other Saturday afternoon between September 15, 2019 - May 25, 2019 (excluding holidays) from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm.

We know everyone is busy, so we ask for 80% attendance to our Saturday mentoring sessions. You may also join during the year at anytime! It doesn't have to start in September.

Minds Matter transforms the lives of accomplished high school students from low-income families by broadening their dreams and preparing them for college success.

Description

Minds Matter brings bright and motivated high school students together with dedicated mentors to help them achieve academic excellence, expand educational horizons and ultimately gain acceptance to college. This is accomplished in a 3-year program that includes 32 Saturday sessions (half academic and half mentoring) per year and 2 Summer program.

There are three program components that differentiate Minds Matter from other organizations: academic instruction, individualized mentoring support, and summer enrichment programs.
