Lunch @ the Library

About

This opportunity is open to youth between the ages of 16 and 20. Do you want to make a difference for children in your community? Then please consider joining the Lunch @ the Library program this summer as the Program Coordinator. A $500.00 stipend is available at the conclusion of the program.

Lunch @ the Library

Children who are eligible to receive a free lunch at school often go hungry during the summer when school is out. The Lunch @ the Library program provides a free healthy meal to kids 18 and under at 10 of our libraries: Arcade, Del Paso, North Highlands-Antelope, Rancho Cordova, Rio Linda, Colonial Heights, Martin Luther King Jr., Southgate, Valley Hi-North Laguna, Southgate, North Sacramento-Hagginwood, Fair Oaks and Sylvan Oaks.

We’re looking to place 2 teen volunteers at each library to provide oversight of the meal service. Activities include managing teen volunteers who help with room set up and clean up and distribution of the pre-packaged lunches.

The Lunch @ the Library program is offered over an 8 week period starting on Tuesday, June 12th, ending on August 3 or August 10 (end date will be confirmed before the start of the program). Lunches are served 4 days a week, Tuesday through Friday from 1:00 to 2:30. The Lunch Coordinator's shift on those days is from NOON to 3:00.

You are highly organized, enjoy working with children and families, able to and interested in providing support and direction to teen volunteers and able to commit to the program for the entire 8 weeks.

Lunch Coordinators will be required to attend an orientation and training in food handling and complete a background check via Live Scan if over 18 years of age.

If this sounds like a great opportunity and a wonderful way to engage with your community and the Library, we look forward to receiving your volunteer application!

Please be sure to indicate the name of the Library or Libraries where you'd like to help.
