Lunch @ the Library
Lunch @ the Library

This opportunity is open to youth between the ages of 16 and 20. Do you want to make a difference for children in your community? Then please consider joining the Lunch @ the Library program this summer as the Program Coordinator. A $500.00 stipend is available at the conclusion of the program.

Lunch @ the Library

Children who are eligible to receive a free lunch at school often go hungry during the summer when school is out. The Lunch @ the Library program provides a free healthy meal to kids 18 and under at 13 of our libraries: Arcade, Carmichael, Colonial Heights, Del Paso Heights, Elk Grove, Fair Oaks, Martin Luther King, Jr., North Highlands-Antelope, North Sacramento-Hagginwood, Rancho Cordova, Rio Linda, Southgate, and Valley Hi-North Laguna.

We’re looking to place 2 teen Program Coordinators at each library to provide oversight of the meal service. Activities include managing teen volunteers who help with room set up and clean up, and distribution of the pre-packaged lunches.

The Lunch @ the Library program is offered over an 8-week period starting on Monday, June 10th, and ending on August 3. Lunches are served 5-6 days a week, Monday through Friday or Saturday from 12:00 to 1:30. The Program Coordinator's shift on those days is from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or longer as necessary.

This position is for you if you are highly organized, enjoy working with children and families, are able to and interested in providing support and direction to teen volunteers, and able to commit to the program for the entire 8 weeks.

Lunch @ the Library Program Coordinators will be required to attend at least two trainings, complete ServSafe food handling and safety training, and complete a Live Scan background check if over 18 years of age.

If this sounds like a great opportunity and a wonderful way to engage with your community and the Library, we look forward to receiving your application!

Please be sure to indicate the name of the Library or Libraries where you'd like to apply.
