Financial Coach/Mentor Volunteers Needed! (Compton)

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: LINC Housing

As a volunteer with LINC you will assist in fulfilling a great need for affordable homes and life-enhancing services to those most vulnerable in our state. Did you know that in California a single worker making minimum wage would have to work over 130 hours per week to afford the average priced two-bedroom apartment for his or her family? Even with two incomes, one can see the challenges that an individual would have working 65 hours per week and still find time to raise a family, care for aging relatives, and contribute in a positive way to their neighborhoods. Financial Coach Volunteers serve adults in these communities as a drop-in financial coach and help with everything from budgeting to loans to banking for the first time.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide financial advising and assistance for low-income adults.
  • Help set goals and plans for residents’ financial needs.
  • Provide supplemental materials and/or worksheets as needed.
  • Promote positive social development among residents in the program.

Volunteers must:

  • Have previous experience and knowledge in finance / financial planning
  • Be enthusiastic, patient, and nonjudgmental
  • Be willing to listen and work with diverse populations
  • Be flexible with changing program needs and needs of residents

Learn new skills and have fun, all while improving the financial literacy of our community!
