Make a big difference - be matched one-on-one as a buddy and role model to a teenage boy in foster care. Mentors hang out with their buddy for 8 hours each month.

Mentors will:

* Need to have a clean criminal background history

* Make a volunteer commitment to mentor the youth for at least 6 months. A longer volunteer commitment is encouraged.

* Go through an 8 hour orientation (held weeknights or weekends - the mentoring coordinator will be flexible according to your schedule).

* After mentor match is made, the mentor will pick up the youth at the residential center where he resides or at his foster home (you will be able to decide if the location is convenient before the mentor match is made)

* Be paid $250 every 6 months to defray expenses for outings

Mission Statement

Our mission is to create permanency in every foster child's life by recruiting and supporting foster/adoptive homes in the St. Louis metropolitan community.

Description

The Foster and Adoptive Care Coalition is a non-profit agency, founded in 1985 with the support of the United Way of Greater St. Louis. Our mission is to create permanency in every foster child's life by recruiting and supporting foster/adoptive homes in the St. Louis metropolitan community.

Our vision is for a community that embraces its most vulnerable members, ensuring that each child in foster care has an opportunity for a healthy, successful life by providing safe, nurturing homes, and a support system for foster and adoptive families as they fulfill the physical, mental, and emotional needs of the children in their care.

Our services are: 1) unique and needed in our community; 2) based on best practice and research; and 3) constantly measured for effectiveness. To leverage the maximum number of services for our families, we continually seek to develop collaborations with community partners.
