PLACEMENT PURPOSE
An area lead leads and builds a team of volunteers in a location that is distant from any Red Cross offices. The area lead acts in part as a volunteer counterpart to both the Disaster Program Manager and the Volunteer Services Manager, coordinating with local government and community partners, and liaising with Red Cross functional leads during Preparedness, Response and Recovery phases of a disaster.
OPEN TIME DAYS
15-20 hours per month. During disaster responses, volunteers may work 12 hour shifts dail .
REQUIRED TRAINING- Disaster Cycle Services: An Overview (Online)
- Shelter Fundamentals (Online or in person)
- DAT Orientation (Instructor led course)
- Casework and Recovery Planning Fundamentals
- Direct Client Assistance Fundamentals
- CAS 2.0 videos (cas.communityos.org)
- Disaster Frontline Supervisor (in person)
- Government Operations Fundamentals
- Collaborating Essentials
- Psychological First Aid
- Area leads are encouraged to take a full suite of trainings to broaden their understanding of the Red Cross. The DPM will help guide the Area Lead to the
- appropriate trainings
