The Encore Fellowships Network

  • 5 people are interested

Would you be interested in an exciting opportunity to make a sustained, high-impact difference in your community as an Encore Fellow? We're looking for candidates transitioning from career to retirement with high-level experience in marketing, organizational development, strategy, HR, systems, finance, operations, etc. Visit http://encore.org/fellowships for more info and to apply.

Note: Encore Fellowships are specifically targeted for older adults (generally 50+) who are leaving their primary career and may want to consider a transition to the social sector.

Encore Fellows make significant contributions applying the skills, experience and knowledge acquired during a primary career. Encore Fellowships are high-impact, flexible, time-limited, paid assignments with nonprofits and public agencies, offering the opportunity to establish new personal networks and learn what it’s really like to work in a new social-purpose environment.
The role is designed to increase the capacity of the organization at a higher, executive level. Typical assignments include working with the organization's senior leadership on a project they identify that will help the organization fulfill and expand its mission: business development, strategic planning, HR, operations or finance, for example. During the Fellowship period (typically six to twelve months, half to full-time), Fellows commit to 1,000 hours of work at a nonprofit and earn a stipend of $25,000. In return, they are embedded as part of the nonprofit staff. The process of selection and matching is competitive focused on finding the best possible mutual match for both the nonprofit work host and the fellow candidate. Fellows:
  • Make significant contributions using the skills, experience and knowledge you already have
  • Earn a stipend (typically $20,000 to $25,000) for completing a 1,000 hour assignment
  • Enjoy a flexible work schedule (~half-time for a year or full-time for 6 months) onsite with their work host
  • Learn firsthand about nonpro´Čüts, foundations and other social institutions
  • Establish contacts and personal networks in a new sector
  • Join a peer cohort of Encore Fellows
Encore Fellow applicants are invited to apply year-round to be considered, and if there is a good opportunity that seems to match your interests and skills, we will contact you. As we also recruit host organizations (who sponsor the stipend), making a mutually agreeable match may take time. Please note that the process is selective. Due to the number of applications and limited number of fellowships, you may not be contacted or matched right away, but we will keep your application available for consideration as new fellowship opportunities and programs open up.
