Young Audiences
Bringing the Arts to over 160,000 students every year!

Greetings!

Baltimore City Schools Summer Arts and Learning Academies operated by Young Audiences Arts for Learning Maryland (YA) will be an action-packed, full-day, five-week program that introduces students to a wide variety of art forms - from illustration, to spoken word, to percussion, to drama and dance-and gives students a chance to work alongside students from across the city and be taught by professional artists.

Daily literacy and math classes will be co-taught by a teacher and professional teaching artist allowing students to experience reading, writing, and math like never before...through the arts! Students will have the opportunity to imagine, create, and express who they are through the arts and try on art forms they never imagined. Students will travel to different arts destinations across the city, and their work will be celebrated through a student showcase on the final day of the program.

Each site is expected to accommodate 10 classrooms with 25 students in each for a total of 250 students per site.

With all of those students, we require a lot of supplies! We need help sorting all of the summer supplies so we can have easy access to them before the program begins.

You will be coming to the office to help sort all kinds of supplies such as pens and pencils, markers, chart paper, etc.

I am looking for 2-4 volunteers to help out! If you are interested, please sign up!

Thank you so much!

Mission Statement

Mission

Young Audiences transforms the lives and education of our youth through the arts by connecting educators, professional artists, and communities. We provide artistically-excellent programs, expertise, and resources to ensure opportunities for all students across the state of Maryland.

We strive to:

  • Bring more arts into Maryland schools by tapping into the talent of the artists living in our communities.
  • Train teachers of all subject areas to use the arts to engage students in the learning process through arts integration.
  • Ensure disadvantaged schools have more access to the arts by covering the financial gap between what schools can afford and what artists need to earn.

Description

Young Audiences, the nation’s largest arts education network, began in Baltimore in 1950. During our 63-year history, the Maryland affiliate of Young Audiences has expanded its services to Maryland students, teachers, and artists to give more students the opportunity to imagine, create, and realize their full potential through the arts.

Last year, Young Audiences’ roster of nearly 50 professional teaching artists provided more than 9,000 live performance, workshop, artist-in-residence, and professional development programs to 374 schools and organizations across Maryland, reaching nearly 200,000 students. Our partners share a commitment to creating moments for students to learn while gaining personal insight, strength, and imagination.
