Oakwood Beach Cleanup

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: NYC Parks Stewardship Program

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
  • 3 people are interested

Join NYC Parks in clearing trash and debris from the wetland buffer at Oakwood Beach! This will clear the way for mowing Phragmites, an invasive reed grass, and native planting later this summer. Dense patches of this tall grass can encourage the spread of dangerous wildfires. In support of Staten Island’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan, mowing the edges of the Phragmites here will help reduce fire risk to the community. Please come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants and clothes that can get dirty, and bring a water bottle. Space is limited and registration is required for this event.
