Belmont University students having fun volunteering at the LP PENCIL Box

About

LP PENCIL Box is a free school supply store for Metro Nashville Schools. It provides basic school supplies to teachers for their disadvantaged students. If you have a passion for our cause and are wanting to use your skills and talents, we encourage you to contact us. There are a variety of skills that can be used at the LP PENCIL Box, such as computer skills, film and video talent, marketing skills, etc. We would love to have you be involved with our cause doing what you already love to do. We are also in need of volunteers who assist teachers in locating needed supplies, help sort donations, restock shelves, and assist in the general upkeep of the store. This project provides you with valuable work skills and experience! Whatever you want to do please contact us and we will try to find the right fit for you as a regular volunteer. We currently need Shopping Assistants to help check teachers in and out and generally create a positive environment for the teachers. Shifts are anytime between 2-6pm, Tuesdays through Thursdays. The following is a list of activities that you might work on during your volunteer experience: Explain all shopping procedures, including how to fill out the Shopping List, and answer questions about shopping. Keep the clipboards at the front desk filled with Shopping Lists. Give teachers their homework assignment of writing thank you notes to our donors. Keep the store tidy and straightened--a clean area coupled with a friendly, warm greeting and good-bye may be the most important job you can do in this position. Work on various tasks assigned by staff during lulls in shopping. This is not inclusive of all the activities you may be asked to perform, but serves as a general guide to the type tasks involved. Interested? Email Kerry Conley at kconley@pencilfd.org for more information, or check out our website at www.pencilfoundation.org. If you cannot volunteer during the week, we have one Saturday every month when we need volunteers to help with Saturday teacher shopping. Please let us know if you would like to volunteer on a Saturday. LP PENCIL Box is sponsored by PENCIL Foundation, in collaboration with the LP Foundation - the charitable arm of Louisiana-Pacific Corporation. The project is made possible by a generous donation from the LP Foundation, which has also agreed to provide a matching grant to encourage other donors. A major partnership between the Nashville business community and Nashville public schools, LP PENCIL Box encourages companies and individuals to donate both new school supplies and surplus office supplies. These items will be distributed from the center located in the McCann ALC at 1300 56th Ave. North. We are also looking for an intern in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, Education, or related majors. Please email Kerry if interested (kconley@pencilfd.org).
