Best Friends National Conference - where people, passion and purpose come together to Save Them All

The Best Friends National Conference is coming to the Harrah's Waterfront Conference Center in New Jersey July 13-16. And we could really use your help to make it a big success.

We have a new volunteer opportunity this year! Best Friends has chartered buses to transport attendees (for a fee) from the Philadelphia airport to Harrah's Waterfront Conference Center. Volunteers will be stationed at each terminal and bus stop, shifts are about 4 hours each, you can select them once you contact us and create a volunteer profile.

Volunteer Duties will depend on if you are at a bus stop or in the airport terminal but may include the following:

• Check flight boards for delayed arrivals that will affect bus ridership.
• Greet conference bus guests and check them off your manifest, sometimes having to search for them.
• Call passengers on their cell phone if you are unable to find them.
• Direct passengers to the closest bus stop for the Best Friends’ shuttle.
• Radio bus stop volunteer to let them know that passengers are coming out.
• Greet conference guests and check them off your list.
• Communicate with terminal volunteer via provided radio to let them know 1) if you are missing any riders scheduled during that hour and 2) that you have everyone and the bus will depart.
• Communicate with next bus stop volunteer that the bus in en route.
• Keep the departures as scheduled and on-time.

Attire is comfortable shoes and pants and an orange Best Friends’ volunteer shirt (provided). Must be able to effectively use a radio and have a working cell phone.

If you sign up, the Best Friends employee managing transportation, Melissa, will be in touch on June 28th to check in with you and we will have an online training webinar the week of July 3rd (not during the holiday, don't worry!)

Traveling is stressful and we want to make it as easy on everyone as possible. Volunteers that sign up for this should be comfortable with problem solving, be friendly and out going and handle stress with grace.
