Volunteers fulfill so many roles in hospice, bringing their own gifts to the table, and enhancing the care which we strive to extend to all our patients, their families, friends and to our team at Compassus.

Would you see yourself as a companion ? You could make each visit special by reading, playing music, assisting with activities, watching TV or simply sitting and sharing their journey. You could relieve caregivers by giving them personal time as a break from the stress of what they and their loved ones are going through.

Are you or have you been part of our military? If so, Thank You so much! You could extend your understanding and experience to our patients who share this background, and bring a level of compassion to them working through our veteran program .

Do you have a certified pet or a friendly pet you can have certified? You could be a pet therapy volunteer . Maybe you have a professional talent you could share, such as Reiki, massage therapy or cosmetology helping to sooth and comfort those in our circle of care.

There are also vigil volunteers , who sit at the bedside of the help actively dying patients, so they don’t have to be alone, or so their families can go get a cup of coffee, and get a break. Also bereavement volunteers help us follow up on families and friends after the patient has passed by assisting with mailings and phone calls, making sure they are coping with the death of their loved one.

If you do not see yourself directly with a patient , and you still want to help we have plenty of tasks here at the office which you could help with and you will ALWAYS be appreciated. Perhaps clerical duties, helping to decorate for different holidays or even doing something crafty for the patients, their families, friends and the team in which you will be an integral part.

As a hospice volunteer, you will be required to go through training and orientation which will be provided by me through Compassus to make sure our program meets Medicare guidelines.
